Unusual Tips
This area of the
site serves no other purpose than to help make your
time on the internet a more pleasurable experience.
E-mail
#1 Many
business' do not permit reception of HTML based
e-mail. It is generally considered more professional
to send plain text mail with a link to a URL if
applicable.
#2 If you
receive an unsolicited e-mail advert (Spam) that says
you may unsubscribe by clicking the link at the foot
of the mail, don't do it. E-mail address harvesting is
big business and clicking unsubscribe is only
confirming that your e-mail account is still active. A
list of 1000 active email accounts can be much more
valuable than a list of 3000 unknown accounts to the
Spam outfits. If, on the other hand, you did
subscribe, then it is usually safe to unsubscribe
using the relevant link.
#3 If you have
a persistent spammer, then try the services of www.spamcop.net.
Alternatively, you may try looking at the header of
the offending mail to find the address to report
abuse. For example in Microsoft Outlook Express, right
click the offending e-mail in the inbox, then click
properties > details > message source. Here you
will find a lot of strange information, most
importantly the originating source of the mail
(providing it hasn't been masked - which is all too
easy in some e-mail clients). If for example you are
receiving spam from spam4u@yahoo.com,
generally speaking the complaint can be sent to abuse@yahoo.com
or whatever the relevant source. Note, when filing
complaints, remember to paste all the information from
the message source into the mail you are going to
send.
